SUMMARY:Webinar: Harnessing the power of whole genome arrayed screening to discover new mechanisms and targets in rare genetic conditions
DESCRIPTION:🗓️ 9th October\n⏰ 10:00am\n📍 Online (Zoom) \nJoin us for this webinar presented by the MRC-AstraZeneca-University of Cambridge Joint Functional Genomics Screening Laboratory. \nSpeaker: Dr Delphine Larrieu\, Altos Labs \nAbstract: Progeria syndromes are very rare\, incurable premature aging conditions recapitulating most aging features. They are caused by mutations in nuclear envelope proteins\, who play major roles in maintaining the structure of the nucleus\, as well as the organisation of the chromatin. As a result of these mutations\, patient-derived cells display a dramatic loss of nuclear envelope integrity\, characterised by nuclear shape distortion\, nuclear envelope ruptures and abnormal localisation of nuclear envelope proteins. With the goal of identifying new players that could restore nuclear envelope integrity and cell health in Progeria patient cells\, we designed a whole genome screen\, looking for genes that could reverse multiple nuclear envelope associated phenotypes at once. These phenotypes can only be assessed by microscopy on adherent cells\, preventing the use of pooled\, flow cytometry-based screening strategies. We therefore implemented a whole genome\, CRISPR arrayed screen that proved to be a powerful approach for identifying new genes enhancing cellular resilience in premature aging and uncover novel biology behind progeria-associated cellular dysfunction. \nClick here to register >>

SUMMARY:Functional genomic screens and AI: a key partnership for successful therapeutic development
DESCRIPTION:🗓️ 22nd October \n⏰ 4:30pm-7:00pm (presentations 5:00pm-6:00pm) \n📍 West Hub\, JJ Thompson Avenue\, Cambridge \nJoin Cambridge Network and the Milner Therapeutics Institute to explore the world of genomics and AI in developing therapies for human disease. \nCRISPR gene-editing and AI are crucial tools in the early stages of developing therapies for the treatment of human disease. Such screens generate myriad datapoints that humans are unable to sift through without computational input. Please join us to learn how the Milner Therapeutics Institute uses both approaches and wide-reaching collaborations input into all stages of the translational pathway from Innovation through to patients and back. \n \nSpeakers: \nNicola McCarthy\, Head of Research\, Milner Therapeutics Institute\, University of Cambridge\nand\nNamshik Han\, Head of Computational Biology and AI\, Milner Therapeutics Institute\, University of Cambridge \nThis talk is free to attend for Milner affiliates\, Cambridge Network members and current staff and students of the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University. \nTo attend: \n\n\n\nMilner affiliates and Consortium members can attend this event free of charge. Please email louise.rushworth@cambridgenetwork.co.uk.\nCurrent staff and students of the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University – attend free of charge\nCambridge Network members – attend free of charge.\n\n\n\nFor more details\, visit: cambridgenetwork.co.uk/events/functional-genomic-screens-and-ai-key-partnership-successful-therapeutic-development \nClick here to read more about Milner research.
